Kalvin Ritter (also known as "The Sparrow") is portrayed by an actor in both HITMAN™ as the target of both the Guided Training and the Freeform Training tutorial missions.

Background[]

Little is known about Kalvin Ritter's origins. Allegedly from Barbados, Ritter first emerged in London in the 1980s as a part of the notorious international jewel thief network "The Yardbirds."

The network's leader, legendary Serbian bank robber Aleksander Kovak, took a shine to the young Ritter and became his mentor. Ritter was a natural cat burglar. Incredibly athletic and acrobatic, he showed impressive strategic skills and high social intelligence. He was charismatic, charming and capable of switching effortlessly between accents, identities and personalities. He was also quite ruthless when he had to be, unafraid to injure or kill security personnel who stood in his way.

When Interpol finally broke up The Yardbirds, only Ritter escaped, emerging years later as a respectable art collector in Florida, USA. Assuming his old Yard Birds moniker, "Sparrow," he stole priceless art worth hundreds of millions from hapless well-to-dos. In 1998, Ritter saw the writing on the wall. Future crime would be digital, not analog, and he decided to retire as a cat burglar. Unfortunately, a former client realized that Ritter had sold him a counterfeit Gorka and hired ICA to put an end to the Sparrow's dream of retirement.

Appearance[]

During the Guided Training and Freeform Training missions, Kalvin Ritter has dark skin, a trimmed beard and short black hair. He wears purple-tinted glasses and sports an orange cravat scarf.

Yardbirds[]

Kalvin Ritter was a member of The Yardbirds, a group of thieves, and was previously assassinated by an unnamed ICA agent. Following the assassination, the ICA performed reenactments of the contract as a way of training potential recruits.

All members of The Yardbirds, including Kalvin himself, also make an appearance during the in-game briefing of The Last Yardbird mission. However, in the briefing, no members of the Yardbirds were shown to have dark skin. It can be assumed that the actor that portrayed him in the tutorial missions bears little resemblance to the real version of himself.

Trivia[]

  • Kalvin Ritter is the very first target to appear and be eliminated in the World of Assassination.
  • His in-game briefing conflicts with the events of HITMAN™ 2. The in-game briefing states that The Yardbirds were broken up by Interpol with Kalvin being the only member to escape.
    • In actuality, The Yardbirds willingly disbanded following an unfortunate bank heist. Ironically enough, he was the first Yardbird to die.
    • Based on former Interpol agent and fellow thief Guillaume Maison's bio, it's also possible that Interpol breaking up the gang was only a cover story, though it's more than likely the breakup in Ritter's bio was retconned later.
  • Along with Jasper Knight, Kalvin is one of the two actor targets that can be found in the ICA Facility.
  • He is able to see through 47's yacht crew disguise when worn inside the training grounds.
  • According to the newspaper article during the briefings for The Last Yardbird, the 'real' Kalvin Ritter was found dead and his assassination was treated by authorities as an accidental death, implying that whoever killed him did so via an accident kill and unnoticed.
  • In The Ark Society, if 47 steals the Cloud Serpent necklace from its case, Diana will slyly comment that even someone as good as Ritter--under the "Sparrow" nickname--couldn't have done better.
