Isabella Caruso is a minor character mentioned in HITMAN™.

Background[]

Isabella Caruso came from a line of rural aristocrats and used to be a free-spirited academic. Eventually, she married a political essayist and had three sons with him, twin brothers Renzo and Orlando, and Silvio Caruso.

At some point her husband died, and Renzo and Orlando fled home, leaving her alone with Silvio, her least favorite child. Isabella clung onto Silvio, whom she smothered for years.

Traits[]

She manipulated and psychologically abused Silvio, making him feel like a failure, in order for him to remain devoted to her only and to make sure he never left her.

At one point, she paid one of her gardener's sons to seduce Silvio's high school girlfriend Amelia, which she took pictures of and showed Silvio, telling him that "romantic love is fleeting, only a mother's love endures". Due to her treatment of him, Silvio developed a strong case of gynophobia.

Sapienza[]

Sometime around 2018 before events of the mission, World of Tomorrow, happened, Silvio eventually snapped and smothered Isabella to death in her bedroom, causing him to suffer a mental breakdown, although Silvio was not suspected of murdering her.

Freeform Training[]

An actress called Gracie Coleman plays Isabella in Freeform Training, where she is found on Deck 02 talking to another man. She will talk about her sons and the conversation will end up in a discussion about her youngest son, Silvio. She will go on to say that "he makes my skin crawl". When the man says that Silvio will turn out fine, she says "Or murder us all", foreshadowing the events of World of Tomorrow.

Trivia[]

  • Isabella appears to be based on Norma Bates, the mother of Norman Bates, from the 1959 thriller novel Psycho. Both were abusive parents who smothered their children into remaining dependent on them, only to eventually get murdered by them. Both Norman and Silvio also have a love-hate relationship with their mothers and express immense guilt for having murdered them.
  • A black-and-white photograph of Isabella can be found hung throughout Villa Caruso. A copy of this photo can also be found burning inside the fireplace in Silvio's room. She is also seen in the VHS Tape, although her face is obscured by a wide-brimmed hat she is wearing.
  • A black-and-white portrait of Isabella can be seen in Thornbridge Manor in Death in the Family, suggesting that she might have relation with the Carlisle Family.
  • In Landslide, it is possible to eavesdrop on a conversation with two women near the stairs leading to the apartments. One of them states that she attempted to see Isabella, but was told to come back later as she wasn't feeling well, while also mentioning a doctor stayed during the night. This suggests that Silvio killed Isabella around the events of Landslide.
  • According to the unused Elusive Target briefing for Renzo and Orlando, Isabella's death was ruled as suspicious.
